Toys for Tots Short on Christmas Donations for Kids in Need

Toys for Tots Charity

CHICAGO —  The Toys for Tots charity is in desperate need of more donations in Cook County.

The U.S. Marine Corps, which runs the charity, says it is way short of the number of toys requested by local families in need.

They are asking for tens of thousands more toys by next Wednesday, Dec. 16. That is the latest date donations can be received to have them delivered by Christmas.

This could be the first year ever that Toys for Tots is not able to deliver a toy to each child who requested one for Christmas, officials said.

The need is particularly great for toys for children age 2 and younger and 10 to 13.

Donations must be new, in original packaging and unwrapped. Toys for Tots prefers not to accept stuffed animals.
