Variety, The Children’s Charity: Improving Young Lives Every Day

Variety, The Children’s Charity

Here at JustPark, we work with a growing number of charities and not-for-profit organisations by providing a way for them to make money from their underused parking spaces, raising funds that go towards supporting their valuable work in the community.

Sam Mellor headed out to meet one of our newest partners – Variety, the Children’s Charity, who rent out four parking spaces at their offices in Camden – to find out more about some of the awesome projects that they fund.

Introducing Variety

Variety is a children’s charity which focuses on helping young people achieve their potential regardless of their circumstances.

They do some truly amazing work for disadvantaged and disabled children across the UK – ranging from funding trips out to theme parks and museums, to providing much-needed medical apparatus and wheelchairs for the less mobile.

The charity receives no funding from the government, meaning that it relies entirely on the support of the public, corporate sponsors and other organisations to achieve its fantastic results.

The £10,000 per year Variety raises through renting out its parking spaces on JustPark helps to fund the charity’s incredibly important work.

Sponsorship

Variety’s sponsors can choose where their money is allocated, be it to the charity’s wheelchair programme – funding the provision of wheelchairs designed for children’s specific needs – or to their Sunshine Coaches scheme, which unlocks new experiences for disabled children by providing accessible transport to attractions across the country.

Sponsors are invited to share in the success of the projects they have helped make a reality – meeting the children whose lives they have affected, participating in trips they have funded and volunteering at events they have supported.

“People can really see where their money is going, and that’s a wonderful experience that you don’t get with most charities” says Variety’s Mike Haszko. “It’s tangible, hands-on stuff – they get to see the effects of the work they have allowed us to achieve first hand”.

‘Variety at Work’

The ‘Variety at Work’ programme is the charity’s own dedicated service provision channel – run by its team of hardworking staff, with a helping hand – or few – from an army of over 400 volunteers.

The team organise a diversity of events for thousands of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children every year, including an annual Christmas festival in the charity’s signature Big Top tent, days out to London Zoo and the Tower of London, and river cruises along the Thames.

“Children can enjoy new experiences that they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to – be it because of money or because of their specific needs” continues Mike. “Variety provides opportunities that these children wouldn’t normally have access to, ensuring that they don’t miss out”.

If you represent a charity that has spare parking space at its premises, please drop us an email – and find out how you can use that space to make some extra income to support the valuable work of your organisation.
